WHO IS NANDO COSTA?
Nominated to the Latin Grammy’s 2020 as the mastering engineer for the album “Cartografias” (Caetano Brasil) in the category “Best Instrumental Album”, Luiz Fernando Costa e Silva (a.k.a. Nando Costa) is a music producer and audio engineer based in Los Angeles, California.
Graduated in Music Production & Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) from Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts), he was awarded by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) in 2009 and the Music Production & Engineering Department at Berklee in 2011. After his graduation in 2012, he returned to his home country (Brazil) and started to lead music production works in several studios. The most important one, Versão Acústica studio, is owned by the renowned singer, musician and composer Emmerson Nogueira, holder of numerous gold and platinum albums and DVD’s. There, Nando had the pleasure of working several times with Emmerson, producing and mixing his last two studio albums – “Emmerson Nogueira” (2014) and “Versão Acústica 5” (2015) – and producing, mixing and mastering his most recent audiovisual production, “Versão Acústica Sessions”, released in 2019.
Besides Emmerson, Nando has worked with big names in the Brazilian and international scene, such as the Grammy Award winner Milton Nascimento, the Grammy Nominated artists Stanley Jordan, Rouge, Caetano Brasil, the jazz prodigious Jesús Molina, among many other important names. In his discography, Nando Costa has produced over 70 full records, countless singles, EP’s and freelance production, mixing and mastering services.
In addition to his work as a music industry professional, Nando has been teaching music production, mixing and mastering courses for over 10 years, has conducted dozens of in-person trainings in several states across Brazil, online international meetings and currently holds a vast library of tutorial videos on his YouTube channel (Nando Costa Music), summing over 250 free videos, 18.000 subscribers and 800.000 views. He also offers full online trainings for hundreds of students on his website www.nandocostamusic.com. Since 2019, when he returned to the US, Nando Costa has been offering mixing and mastering services through his dedicated website www.wemastermusic.com and has been working as the lead sound engineer for the highly requested group of studios Mix Recording Studios (www.mixrecordingstudio.com), in Los Angeles.
Currently, Nando Costa is the mixing and mastering engineer for the successful 2x Latin Grammy Award winner, producer and telenovela / film score composer Daniel Figueiredo, besides acting as a coordinator for the composer’s record label XpandMusic (www.xpandmusic.com). Nando has been working side by side with Daniel Figueiredo in several music productions and audiovisual projects, including the acclaimed biblical series “Reis”, aired daily on Record TV channel in Brazil and the feature films “Maneater” and “Battle for Saipan”, released in 2022.
