Dolby Atmos is a technology created by Dolby Laboratories in 2012. Even though the technology has been used for movies and broadcast since then, only in 2020 it was adopted in the music world, with streaming services offering music mixed in Dolby Atmos. Currently, Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music stream music in Dolby Atmos and hold an exponentially growing catalog with music mixed with this technology.
Do I need anything special to enjoy music in Dolby Atmos?
As you just experienced on the examples above, you don’t need anything special other than your regular pair of headphones. Dolby Atmos translates a spatial mix done in multiple speakers into what we call a binaural version.
If you have either Apple Music, Tidal or Amazon Music subscriptions, you already have access to thousands of songs mixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos!
